Bucks Signing TyTy Washington to Two-Way Deal

The 6-foot-3 Arizona native was notably regarded as one of the best point guards in the 2021 class, and went on to play for Kentucky before being drafted 29th overall by the Grizzlies in last year’s draft. Washington played all 31 games with the Rockets his rookie year, in which he averaged 4.7 points (36% FG), 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, in 14 minutes per game.

After being involved in a five-team trade this offseason, Washington was originally sent to Atlanta and then as a result of a salary-disposal deal that made Patty Mills a Hawk, the 21-year-old found himself on the Oklahoma City Thunder roster for the NBA Summer League.

Appearing in two games, Washington averaged 19 minutes of playing time, in which he recorded 6.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shooting 50 percent from the field. 

After Oklahoma City recently waived Washington, he was an unrestricted free agent before now being welcomed to Milwaukee ahead of the 2023-2024 season. Fans hope to see a glimpse of the 21-year-old’s lightning quickness and up-tempo style of play.

In a limited sample size, Washington has shown the capability to be an all around offensive scoring threat by blowing past defenders with ease, in addition to being a 3-point shot-creator.

Not to mention, the guard displays the ability to develop into a solid two-way player by showcasing high intensity and good instincts when playing defense on the perimeter. There is no doubt, the second year player has tremendous upside if given the opportunity to play in a larger role off the bench behind point guard Jrue Holiday.

Being on a two-way contract, Washington is set to earn $559,782, and will be eligible to be active in a maximum of 50 games with the Bucks this season.

As a result, Washington will most likely spend time in the G League, where last season he played in 18 games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and averaged 23.0 points (44% FG), 4.6 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.3 steals.
