It's been a fun weekend of football up to this point, and thanks to the new playoff schedule, we get one more night of action. It's No. 5 Dallas visiting No. 4 Tampa Bay, with the winner advancing to face the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday.
Keep in mind, the over is 5-0 up to this point. Tampa Bay is 11-6 to the under this year and these two combined for just 22 points when they met to begin the year. We really would rather not root for an under, as we feel it can hijack the viewing experience just a tad, but that's where the numbers are telling us this game is going.
Dallas has had their vulnerabilities on the defensive end this season, namely in the secondary. They've given up the 10th-most yards per game to wide receivers and no team has allowed more touchdowns to the WR position.
Tom Brady has averaged 43.12 pass attempts per game this year, the most among passers who have started at least five games. Tampa Bay's offensive philosophy plays right into the Cowboys' biggest weakness, and that's what we like to see. It's a volume game, so knowing that players like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will be seeing a steady stream of targets has us liking their chances for a big game. Now it just comes down to who we trust more.
Over the last 10 games, Godwin has the slight target lead, averaging 9.8 per game compared to Evans at 9.3. Godwin also has the slight edge in red-zone targets (17 vs. 14), though Evans tops Godwin in average depth of target (14.2 vs. 6.0). That aDOT number catches our eye, as it seems so often that the wide receivers scoring against the Cowboys are doing so deep down the field.
In their past three games against Dallas, Evans has averaged 61.7 yards per game, scoring twice. Godwin has averaged 59.7 yards per game and found the end zone once. Both offer us solid odds here on FanDuel, but our preference lies with Mike Evans. He's fresh off a three-TD game and has scored in four of his last five playoff games.
Betting: Mike Evans TD (+200 FD)
NFL divisional round matchups almost finalized following action-packed Super Wild Card Weekend — The weekend began with another strong win from San Francisco — its 11th straight, clinching them a second home game in the divisional round. The 49ers will play the winner of tonight's game. Saturday's night game brought us one of the most epic collapses/comebacks we've ever seen, as the Chargers blew a 27-0 lead, losing to the Jaguars 31-30. It was equally sad for Los Angeles and impressive for Jacksonville, who will face Kansas City next Saturday. The Bills and Bengals both eked out closer-than-expected wins over divisional rivals and will now play each other next Sunday in a game we never got to see in Week 17. Daniel Jones and the Giants looked great yesterday in a 31-24 upset victory over the Vikings. New York now travels to Philadelphia to take on the top-seeded Eagles for the third time this season.
Current Super Bowl odds after Wild Card weekend:
Former WNBA MVP on the move — The New York Liberty pulled off quite the haul over the weekend, acquiring one of the league's best players in Jonquel Jones. Jones, a four-time All-Star, four-time All-WNBA selection, and 2021 MVP, joins a Liberty team that is led by star guard Sabrina Ionescu, forming a tantalizing combination. New York now owns the second-best odds to win the 2023 championship at +350 on Caesar's, a bet we can get behind.
