BYU added depth at the quarterback position on Saturday morning. Former Stanford four-star passer Bear Bachmeier announced he'll be headed to Provo, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, the exciting dual-threat quarterback who can beat a defense with his arm or his legs. He was part of this year's recruiting class for the Cardinal but decided to look elsewhere after Troy Taylor was fired.

Bachmeier had offers from several Power Four programs, including Oregon, Utah, Boise State, Colorado, Miami and others. He was noted as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 class.

He’s built like a tank and can take off and run for big yards and does a nice job escaping initial pressure and extending plays, 247Sports' Greg Biggins wrote about Bachmeier. "He can also beat you from the pocket and is a very competent thrower. He has a strong arm, quick release and can throw from different arm angles. He’s comfortable throwing, rolling out to either direction, is a tough kid and a fierce competitor."

Bear was a coveted recruit coming out of high school. He has the talent to be BYU's next starter after Jake Retzlaff moves on from Provo.

Bachmeier will have four years of eligibility remaining starting next year.
