Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik is quietly building his case as one of the Tigers’ all-time greats — and he’s doing it by learning from the best. In a recent interview with ESPN’s Andy Staples, Klubnik revealed that he has been studying film of NFL stars Joe Burrow and Bailey Zappe as part of his ongoing effort to improve his game.

“I just know I can still get better. That’s exciting — when you’re good at something and you know you can still get better,” Klubnik said. This mindset of relentless growth has defined Klubnik’s time at Clemson and shapes his plans going forward.

After taking more time than many expected to develop at the collegiate level, Klubnik exploded onto the scene during the 2024 season, throwing for 3,639 yards and 36 touchdowns. His poise and accuracy led Clemson to an ACC championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff, proving he can perform on the biggest stages.

Yet Klubnik doesn’t see his journey as complete. Instead, he has chosen to return to Clemson for the 2025 season, opting to forego the NFL Draft to sharpen his skills, lead his team deeper into the postseason, and chase a national title. His dedication to continuous learning is evident in his film study habits and his willingness to put in the work off the field.

Klubnik’s evolution begs the question: Who belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Clemson quarterbacks? Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence — both national champions and first-round NFL picks — certainly set the bar high. Klubnik’s trajectory, however, suggests he could soon join their ranks among the Tigers’ elite.

For now, Klubnik remains focused on growth, inspired by players like Burrow and Zappe, and excited by the knowledge that even greatness can get better.
