Wakefield Trinity forward Caius Faatili has dismissed his incredible solo try in the Magic Weekend fixture as luck, despite the spectacular display.
Playing rugby league for just over two years, the 23-year-old scored a 70-meter try against the Castleford Tigers, securing Wakefield's 32-8 win.
"I think it was a bit lucky," Faatili said in a press statement after the game. He added, "I pushed off of Corey Hall, and I think Tex Hoy came off with a hamstring injury." Despite his modesty, Faatili's try was a pivotal moment, showcasing his pace and agility as he evaded defenders, including Roman Milnes and Hoy, to cross the line
Faatili also shared his experience playing at St. James' Park in front of over 64,000 fans. "I loved it," he said. "Powelly had been talking about it through the week as an awesome occasion. It was awesome to play at the stadium and to see all the Wakey fans who turned out as well."
The lack of proper formation put Faatili on the field, where he came up with an impressive performance. He scored two tries and rushed for 171 meters off 12 carries. He also made 21 tackles, of which only one was missed. He was a great asset in ensuring that Wakefield clinched the fifth win of the season.
During his second season as a team member, Coach Powell said that Faatili had improved tremendously since joining the team. "Caius has been growing since he came here," Powell said. It has been found that his overall game is improving week in and week out.
