Significant news involving Cal football with reports that offensive coordinator Jake Spavital will leave to accept the same role at Baylor.

The news was first reported by Colt Barber, who covers Baylor football for Sicem365.com.

Spavital was the third offensive coordinator Wilcox hired and has by far the greatest success. The Bears scored more than 40 points four times this season and are averaging 31.6 headed into their first bowl game in four seasons.

Speculation is that offensive line coach Mike Bloesch will be promoted to offensive coordinator.

This was Spavital's second one-year stint with the Bears, having handled the offense during Sonny Dykes' final season in 2016. He departed at that point after Dykes was fired and Wilcox brought in his own staff.

This is an ongoing story and will be updated shortly.
