Caleb Downs’ father explains why DB ‘adored’ Nick Saban during time with Alabama

Caleb Downs decided to transfer from Alabama football to Ohio State following Nick Saban deciding to retire from coaching college football.

Saban’s decision reportedly played a significant role in Downs’ decision to transfer. The Georgia native’s dad recently provided some more insight into Downs’ relationship with the former Alabama coach while sitting down with Derrick Tatum on the Tatum Talk Podcast. 

“He absolutely adored Nick, and Caleb loves great coaching,” Downs said. “Nick was absolutely the best DB coach. Caleb sat by Nick. He sat by Nick every single day. So, he’s getting all the nuances of what Nick is saying, the inflections in the voice, and he’s getting it all in, and that’s where he wanted to be.”

Downs and Ohio State are gearing up to play in the National Championship against Notre Dame.
