Cam Newton Calls Out Narrative Against Deion Sanders Amid Recent Criticism

Cam Newton isn’t holding back when it comes to defending Deion Sanders. The former NFL MVP recently called out the criticism surrounding Sanders, arguing that the backlash against him is rooted in unfair narratives about black fathers in America.

Newton was responding to a segment on “The Herd” in which it was suggested that Shedeur Sanders’ slide in the NFL Draft was due to his father not being supportive enough. That take didn’t sit well with Newton, who made it clear that Deion has done nothing but stand by his son.

“He is being a stand-up father, all hands on deck,” Newton said. “But the narrative and propaganda in America has always been that black fathers don’t show up for their children.”

Sanders has been heavily involved in Shedeur’s career, coaching him at Jackson State and Colorado while helping him navigate the transition to the NFL. Despite that, critics have questioned whether his presence has been a hindrance rather than a benefit.

Shedeur, who was once projected as a first-round pick, ultimately fell to the fifth round, landing with the Cleveland Browns. While some analysts pointed to concerns about his playing style, others speculated that his father’s outspoken nature may have played a role in teams passing on him.

Newton, however, isn’t buying it. He believes Sanders has done everything right as a father and coach, and that the criticism is more about perception than reality.

As Shedeur begins his NFL journey, the debate over his draft slide will continue. But Newton’s defense of Deion Sanders made it clear that he’s not letting the narrative go unchecked.
