Cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo connection shines at Titans rookie minicamp

Cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo connection add juice to Titans receiver competition

Selected No. 1 overall by the Titans last month, Ward advocated heavily for his then-Miami and now-Tennessee teammate Restrepo during the pre-draft process. 

Restrepo, Miami's all-time receptions leader, fell out of the draft after running a 4.8 40-yard dash at the Hurricane's pro day. The Titans front office prioritized reuniting Ward and Restrepo in Nashville after the duo both achieved All-America honors while combining for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns in their lone season together. On Saturday, Restrepo and Ward's connection was on clear display. 

"Xavier's been a really productive college player," coach Brian Callahan said. "You look at all the names of receivers that have played at the University of Miami and he's at the top, which is impressive. He might not necessarily be the biggest or the fastest player that's probably ever come out of Miami, but he's been incredibly productive. 

"He's found ways to play football the right way, so he'll start out as a slot player for us and he'll have every chance to compete just like everybody else will. But you just look at his production and what he's done as a football player and he puts himself in pretty good position to be competitive. And even though he didn't run the fastest time in the world, I'm excited to see what he can do."

Veterans will join the rookies in the building for the first time on Monday before the real work begins.
