If you have followed college football, you have seen flags that are thrown that are questionable. With this, you have also seen fans come unglued at essentially any flag, legitimate in nature or not, thrown that goes against their team. While we understand the word “fan” is a shorter version of fanatic. Some are asking if there is a large conspiracy against teams within conferences.
Can You Believe The SEC Conspired Against Arkansas? We Can’t Either
Aluminum Foil Has To Be Uncomfortable
Within the Arkansas fanbase and some media outlets, there is an unrealistic or biased perception that the officials within the Southeastern Conference are out to get them on a weekly basis. Yes, there are people on this planet who believe SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey colludes with his officials to ensure that one team, or multiple teams, within the conference loses games.
The latest iteration of this stems from the 38-35 loss to
Mississippi State, for the seventh consecutive loss for the program. More on the losses shortly, but this puts the current state of the program into perspective. We pose a simple question to those who have this process running through their brains: “Why would the SEC make sure a program already losing games continue to lose?” This makes zero sense. Moreover, why would the SEC randomly help a
State program that had not won a conference game since 2023, against Arkansas? We see that common sense is a flower that does not grow in all gardens.
This Has Happened Before
This is not the first time the Arkansas program has been down this dark road. In fact, this is the fourth time since 1973 a Hogs season has featured a seven-game, or worse, losing streak. In addition to this season, Arkansas dropped seven consecutive games in the 1990 season. In that season, under first-year head coach Jack Crowe, the Razorbacks dropped games from October 6th through November 17th. To close what would be a 3-8 season, Arkansas defeated SMU 42-29 in Dallas.
For those pondering when the program has been worse, hold tight. Arkansas has seen darker days than now, yet fans may not admit it. The program has seen two seasons of nine-game losing streaks since 1973. In the 2013 season, the first under Bret Bielema, the Razorbacks finished with a 3-9 record. The Hogs won the first three games of the year, then a loss at Rutgers on September 21st started a nine-game skid for Arkansas. Beilema took over for John L. Smith {SMILE!}, who took over for Petrino following his scandal in 2012.
The second occurrence of a nine-game losing skid came in the 2019 season, the final for Chad Morris. In what would be a 2-10 season for Arkansas, the Hogs danced in “Club Dub’ following a 55-34 win before losing the final nine games as Barry Lunney Jr took over as interim following the departure of Morris.
