The WNBA will be expanding to Canada, the commissioner announced today . Cathy Engelbert, WNBA commissioner held a press event to unveil the news to media for another Toronto sports team.

“Bringing a WNBA team to Toronto represents an important milestone for our league,” Engelbert said. “We continue to expand both domestically and outside the United States.”
This new franchise will be owned and operated by Kilmer Sports Ventures. Larry Tanenbaum is chairman for the company and has already helped many Toronto teams to succeed. He works with the Toronto Raptors and the Maple Leafs as well.
“Today is a game-changing day not only for women’s basketball but also for sports in Canada,” Tanenbaum said.
Another expansion team to soon appear in the WNBA is the Golden State Valkyries. This club will begin their tenure in 2025.
It is to be announced what the name of this new Toronto team will be at the moment. The debut for women’s basketball in Toronto is 2026.
Toronto’s team will play their games at Coca-Cola Coliseum. These games will be in downtown Toronto primarily but can be played other locations as well.
