Canon, the renowned Japanese camera manufacturer, has recently expanded its high-end camera lineup with the introduction of the Canon EOS R5 Mark II, announced alongside another flagship model, the Canon EOS R1. Set for release in August 2024, the EOS R5 Mark II has been eagerly awaited by photography enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Priced at $4,299 for the body only, and approximately €5,200 including VAT in Europe, the camera incorporates a wealth of advanced features designed to enhance shooting capabilities and user experience. At the heart of the EOS R5 Mark II is a 45MP full-frame back-illuminated stacked (BSI) Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor. This new sensor significantly improves readout speeds by 60%, effectively minimizing the rolling shutter effects and facilitating shutter speeds as rapid as 1/64000 of a second. Additionally, it supports a continuous shooting speed of up to 30 frames per second, ensuring that even the most fleeting moments are beautifully captured.

The camera also boasts in-body image stabilization (IBIS), providing a remarkable 8.5-stops of stabilization, a feature that is particularly beneficial in low-light conditions or during video recording. The Canon EOS R5 Mark II utilizes Canon’s advanced DIGIC accelerator alongside the DIGICC X image processor, which enhances processing speeds and overall performance.

In terms of autofocus, the EOS R5 Mark II introduces a newly enhanced Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system. Connectivity options are comprehensive, with Wi-Fi 6E and optional 2.5 Base-T Ethernet connectivity through an additional grip. The camera’s body is crafted from a robust dust and water-resistant magnesium alloy and features an enhanced EVF with 5.76M dots, reportedly twice as bright as its predecessor.

The EOS R5 Mark II requires a new battery model, the Canon LP-E6P, designed to support intense 8K video recording sessions. For extended use, optional grips are available, including a standard grip for added battery and vertical controls, a network grip featuring Ethernet connectivity, and a cooling grip equipped with an active cooling system ideal for prolonged recording sessions.
