In a remarkable display of both athletic and academic achievement, the University of Louisville’s student-athletes have once again proven their prowess off the field. A total of 561 student-athletes at UofL achieved Athletic Director’s Honor Roll status for the fall semester, showcasing their dedication to their studies with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.

Impressively, this marks the 26th consecutive semester in which UofL’s student-athletes have maintained a department-wide GPA of 3.0 or higher. The collective GPA for the fall 2023 semester was an impressive 3.364.

Out of the 561 student-athletes who earned the honor roll status, 462 were honored with Red and Black Scholar honors for achieving a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Furthermore, 93 student-athletes achieved the remarkable feat of earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Leading the charge for academic excellence among Louisville’s 23 sports teams were the women’s soccer team, recording an impressive team GPA of 3.743. On the men’s side, the swimming and diving team boasted the highest team GPA with an impressive 3.512.

Not content with excelling in the classroom alone, the University of Louisville also achieved a department-record 93% Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the NCAA’s latest report released in December. This impressive figure surpasses the previous record of 92% set last year and the 91% achieved in the two years prior. The GSR accounts for transfers, including mid-year enrollees, who either graduate or leave the university in good academic standing.

The report, which includes data from freshmen who entered the university during the 2016-17 academic year, highlights the significant progress made by UofL in ensuring student-athletes’ academic success. The university’s GSR has risen by nearly 30% since reporting began 19 years ago.

The University of Louisville’s commitment to academic excellence is further evidenced by the fact that 17 programs achieved a GSR of 90 or higher in the December report. Seven programs, including men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, field hockey, women’s soccer, and volleyball, achieved a perfect 100 mark. These figures highlight the university’s dedication to supporting its student-athletes academically and ensuring their success beyond the playing field.
