Cardinals’ Season Ends Against No. 5 West Virginia

In a tough match on Sunday, the University of Louisville men’s soccer team ended their season with a 1-0 loss against No. 5 West Virginia. The Cardinals finish the season with a record of 12-6-3, their highest win total since 2017.

Both teams had scoring chances early in the game, but were unable to find the back of the net until the 72nd minute when West Virginia broke the scoreless tie with a shot from the top of the box that found the right post.

Louisville had their fair share of opportunities throughout the match, with Konstantinos Georgallides and Gage Guerra taking shots in the early minutes. Alex Svetanoff made a crucial save in the 22nd minute, diving to deflect a dangerous header from West Virginia.

The Cardinals continued to push for an equalizer in the second half, but were unable to find the goal they needed to keep their season alive. Quinton Elliot had a low driving shot saved, while West Virginia outshot Louisville 17-7 in the match.
