Cardinals Seize Third Place in Day 2 Finals at Ohio State Fall Invitational

The University of Louisville swimming team is showcasing their skills at the Ohio State Fall Invitational. After completing the second day of finals, both the men and women’s squads are sitting in a respectable third place at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The men have accumulated a score of 1354.5, trailing only Indiana and Ohio State, while the women have posted a score of 1421, following behind Ohio State and Indiana.

The No. 12/3-ranked Louisville men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are going head to head against the nationally ranked Buckeyes in this invitational. The competition also features schools such as Indiana, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Ohio University (diving only), Cal (diving only), and Kenyon (diving only).

The meet, taking place over three days, commenced at 9:30am. Prelims were conducted in the morning in meters, followed by finals at 5:30 ET in yards.

Louisville showcased their talent in the women’s 200 Medley Relay, as Abby Hay, Ella Welch, Christiana Regenauer, and Gabi Albiero combined forces to achieve a time of 1:35.39, securing second place. The B-relay team, consisting of Ally Boynton, Cecilia Viberg, Karoline Barrett, and Julia Dennis, also performed well, achieving a fifth-place time of 1:37.74.

In the men’s 200 Medley B Relay, the Louisville team secured a fifth-place spot, with a time of 1:26.48, with Kasper Johnsen, Luke Shourds, Mateo Miceli, and Vlad Dubinin as their representatives. In addition, the C-relay team tied for sixth place, with Drew Collins, Grant Gooding, Aidan Paro, and Caleb Duncan posting a time of 1:26.65. Indiana claimed victory in this event, with a time of 1:23.84.

Gabi Albiero of Louisville emerged victorious in the women’s 100 fly, finishing with a time of 50.83, nearly a second ahead of the rest of the field. Her teammate, Christiana Regenauer, took third place with a time of 52.11, while Karoline Barrett finished in 12th place, with a time of 53.64. Tristen Ulett finished in 15th place, touching in at 54.59.

In the men’s 100 fly, IU’s Tomer Frankel claimed first place with a time of 45.26. Dalton Lowe represented Louisville well, finishing in fifth place with a time of 46.35. Mateo Miceli secured seventh place with a time of 47.39, and Aidan Paro came in 11th, clocking in at 47.29.

Abby Hay powered through to win the women’s 400 IM for Louisville, finishing with a time of 4:09.42, edging out Ohio State by .4 of a second. Emily Herkle achieved eighth place with a time of 4:14.59, while Paige Kuwata and Rye Ulett finished in 11th and 12th place, respectively. Louisville’s Jordan Durocher and Zoe Vogelmann also put up noteworthy times of 4:19.19 and 4:25.46, respectively.

Ohio State’s Tristan Jankovics secured first place in the men’s 400 IM with a time of 3:40.89. Louisville’s Jackson Millard achieved a commendable third place finish, clocking in at 3:44.76, followed by Tommy Bried in fifth place with a time of 3:47.44, and Tyler Watson in seventh place with a time of 3:48.35.

IU’s Anna Peplowski won the women’s 200 free with an impressive time of 1:42.97. Louisville’s Paige Hetrick secured fifth place with a time of 1:46.36, followed closely by Fernanda Celidonio, who finished in sixth place with a time of 1:47.00. Summer Cardwell and Lucy Mehraban also posted respectable times, finishing in ninth and tenth place, respectively. Julia Dennis, Madie Hall, and Maddie Luther put up noteworthy times as well, showcasing Louisville’s talent in this event.

Notre Dame’s Chris Guiliani took first place in the men’s 200 freestyle, completing the race with a time of 1:32.14. Louisville’s Murilo Sartori claimed fourth place with a time of 1:33.67, followed by Ilia Sibirtsev in sixth place with a time of 1:35.88. Kayden Lancaster and Denis Loktev also secured top ten finishes for Louisville in this event.

Ohio State’s Hannah Bach dominated the women’s 100 breast with a time of 57.78. Louisville’s Cecilia Viberg finished fourth with a time of 59.66, while Ella Welch secured fifth place with a time of 59.89. Kim Herkle achieved ninth place, clocking in at 1:02.06.

In the men’s 100 breast, Indiana’s Jassen Yep claimed the winning time of 51.49. Louisville’s Denis Petrashov achieved the best finish for the Cardinals, coming in fourth place with a time of 52.49. Luke Shourds finished fifth with a time of 53.17, and Aidan Kreiley secured eighth place with a time of 54.25. Grant Gooding and Rob Ehrenbord also put up strong times for Louisville.

The women’s 100 backstroke saw Kacey McKenna from Indiana and Mya DeWitt tie for first place with a time of 52.47. Louisville’s Ally Boynton finished in eighth place with a time of 54.19, while Abby Karl achieved 19th place, posting a time of 56.74.

Indiana’s Brendan Burns claimed victory in the men’s 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 45.29. Louisville’s Jackson Millard secured eighth place with a time of 47.75, while Dalton Lowe achieved 11th place with a time of 46.53. Charlie Crush followed closely behind in 12th place, clocking in at 46.86. Drew Collins and Yassin Hossam also posted notable times for Louisville.

In the 800 free relay, Indiana emerged as the champions with a time of 7:01.08. Louisville’s B-relay secured a fourth-place finish, posting a time of 7:11.50, with Madie Hall, Tristen Ulett, Lucy Mehraban, and Maddie Luther contributing to the team’s success. The A-relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 7:14.38, led by Paige Hetrick, Fernanda Celidonio, Summer Cardwell, and Julia Dennis.

Indiana continued their dominance in the men’s 800 free relay, securing a win with a time of 6:15.55. Louisville’s A-relay achieved a commendable third-place finish with a time of 6:21.11, with Murilo Sartori, Guy Brooks, Kayden Lancaster, and Ilia Sibirtsev as their representatives.

The next events, taking place on Saturday, November 18, include the 1650 Free, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 400 Free Relay, and Platform Dive.
