CBS Sports will have a big late-afternoon slate of games to start the 2025 college football season with four games featuring marquee programs. But fans don't seem all that impressed by the lineup.
On Thursday, amid a big day of schedule releases across college football, CBS announced its lineup 3:30 p.m. ET for Week 1, which will be August 30 of this year. The four games they have on the slate will be Penn State-Nevada, Oregon-Oregon State, Purdue-USC and Nebraska-Michigan. Games will be available either on CBS or the Paramount+ streaming service.
"Saturdays at 3:30PM ET this Fall — It’s B1G Time," the network announced.

College football fans didn't mince words with how underwhelmed they were by those four matchups. Many lament that CBS gave up on having SEC broadcast rights just so they could get more money:
"Would rather watch paint dry than any of these matchups……. Missing the sec yet ??" one user remarked.
"Fox really pulled the rug from underneath NBC and CBS," another wrote.
"The fall off of the CBS Saturday game after letting the SEC slide, will be studied for generations," wrote a third.
"This new deal sucks the 3:30 SEC slot on CBS was perfect now CBS gets (expletive) big 10 games as Fox gets the big ones at 12..."
"Nevada at PSU is clearly a jump from Auburn at Georgia," another mocked.
"You gave up the SEC for this?"
"Basically shows that there is only one big-time game in the Big Ten each week."
That's a lot of hate for CBS. Though in their defense, they don't get to decide which games the teams put on their schedule every year. If there were better options, CBS probably would have jumped at the chance to broadcast them.
The fact of the matter is that college football teams have largely wizened up to the idea that having compelling games on their schedule isn't important anymore. The most important thing to do in order to reach the College Football Playoff is farm wins against easier opposition.
Right now, the Big Ten is a little top-heavy with only three or four really good teams each year. The SEC, on the other hand, has about double that.
CBS may have picked a rough time to abandon the SEC for the Big Ten.
