SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview is an anchor on the growth of Chicago’s professional soccer teams and Chicago Stars FC are moving another 2025 home match away from that venue.
Chicago will host the Orlando Pride on September 7 at 2:00 p.m. CT at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston. Starting last year, the field has been used as a temporary college football stadium as Northwestern is building a new Ryan Field for that program.
This is the second 2025 home match that Chicago has moved to a venue other than SeatGeek Stadium, with Chicago’s matchup against Seattle Reign on June 14 taking place at Soldier Field.
I understand why Chicago Stars FC wanted this venue change but this cannot be a trial run for Martin Field as a permanent home venue for the club, which was reportedly being explored according to Evanston Now.
The venue is temporary for a reason, and while the lakefront views are nice, the wind of Lake Michigan can be brutal at Martin Stadium.
Despite Chicago’s need to be playing at a venue that is better and more accessible (via public transportation, parking is a pain) than SeatGeek Stadium, having soccer legend Marta play at a college stadium in 2025 isn’t a great look for the NWSL.
Having said all of that, it is productive for the Chicago Stars organization to expand its footprint in Evanston.
Should the club be playing outside of Chicago? No, but Evanston isn’t the worst option all things considered.
Chicago will host the Kansas City Current on May 24 at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview. The match will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and be broadcast on ION.
