Hopefully Kansas City sports fans are keeping entertained during the NFL offseason by the neighboring Royals of the MLB.

On Tuesday evening when the Royals host the New York Yankees at Kauffman Stadium, Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis will throw the ceremonial first pitch (H/T Harold Kuntz of Fox 4 K.C.).

Karlaftis and the Chiefs are going currently working through their third round of OTAs before mandatory minicamp begins one week from today. As for the Royals, Tuesday's game could be a memorable one as it will mark the home debut of standout prospect outfielder Jac Caglianone.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Caglianone made his big league debut one week ago in a road matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals. In his most recent game, Caglianone went 4-4 with three singles and one double in a 7-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The Royals are currently sitting at a 34-32 record, and are just 1.5 games out of the American League wildcard standings. They are banking on Caglianone giving them a big boost offensively, and potentially developing into an All-Star the caliber of his teammate shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

Having the Chiefs and Royals playing well at the same time is an exciting and rare treat. Both teams had winning seasons from 2013-2015, with the Royals capturing the World Series title in '15. The Chiefs have won three Super Bowls since then, and the Royals got back to the postseason last year after posting an 86-76 record.

On October 7 of 2024 the Chiefs and Royals played at the same, as the Chiefs defeated the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, and the Royals defeated the Yankees in Game 2 of the American League Division Series. Perhaps Karlaftis will set the tone for some good vibes during his first pitch appearance and propel the Royals to a victory.
