Cristian Chivu edged closer to committing his future to Parma following a meeting today, having rescued the team from relegation.
The former Inter defender retired from playing in 2014 and has been working for the Nerazzurri in various roles within their youth academy.
He became a senior coach in his own right for the first time in February, taking over from sacked Fabio Pecchia at Parma.
Chivu oversaw three wins, seven draws and three defeats, which proved enough to avoid relegation from Serie A.
It was only a short-term contract, but he did enough to impress Parma and prompt them to want to continue together next season.
According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the 44-year-old met with Parma director of sport Federico Cherubini today and they agreed there were the right foundations to build on for 2025-26.
Another meeting is required to discuss the finer details of the contract and that is expected next week, but this was a very positive first step.
