South Carolina Gamecocks star Chloe Kitts' parents, Jason and Krystle Kitts, are big supporters of their daughter. In fact, her dad's advice has helped her get to where she is today. But during games, Kitts said she can't always look at her dad because he makes her nervous.

At a postgame press conference after the Gamecocks' win over Duke, Chloe talked about how she appreciates her dad's support, but she can't always look at him during her free throws because she feels so scared.

A reporter commented to Kitts that it was easy to see her dad standing up and supporting her during the games.

"I do avoid him a lot during the game," Kitts admitted. "But I've been actually starting to look at him more because he'll just be saying the right stuff at the right time. I didn't look at him before the free throws because I was scared."

Jason is a 1996 Rogers of Puyallup graduate who helped teach Chloe about basketball, Chloe told SI. Today, he runs a non-profit for youth basketball development in Florida called Community Home Balance, Greenville Online reported.

The Kitts family moved away from Washington in August 2014 after Jason had a near-death health scare and Krystle had to take a job in Florida to help support the family, Sports Illustrated reported.

"Even though I moved to Florida, I still claim Washington," Kitts told SI.

The family bounced back and by 2022, Kitts was a five-star prospect ranked No. 17 in the 2023 class, Greenville Online shared. She announced her commitment to South Carolina that November and by late December, she was enrolling at South Carolina early.

In an interview with the Women Hoops Network, Chloe's dad explained that she ultimately chose to join the Gamecocks because of Staley's coaching style.

"So Dawn didn't come until the last second to the last viewing period of her junior year..." he said. "She had offers from everybody in the country but Geno [Auriemma] and Dawn [Staley] had never watched her play... When Dawn came, it wasn't a basketball thing, it's a human thing. The way that she treats these female athletes and the way that she's a role model."

Her mom added, "When Dawn showed up, there was like a fire in her that I've never even seen... She's doing all these crazy moves and I'm like, what is going on? ... And you could just see, it was something different."
