Who does Clemson miss from the ACC schedule?

Cal, Miami, NC State, Pitt, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

It’s a problem to skip Stanford, Virginia, and Wake Forest - all three failed to get to a bowl last season - but assuming NC State bounces back, that’s a strong team to miss. Pitt and Cal aren’t bad to have off the slate, but the big one is Miami. It’s a shame these two don’t meet AGAIN - they didn’t play last year, either.

Clemson football schedule, the good and the bad

The Good: If Florida State is soft again - or, at least, not back to its normal self - the ACC schedule isn’t bad.

Going to Georgia Tech is dangerous, and who know what’s coming out of that tunnel at Northwestern, but Syracuse, SMU, and Florida State at home will help. Starting the season out against LSU is tough, but that Tiger on Tiger action is in the South Carolina version of Death Valley.

The Bad: Going to Louisville is an awful way to close out the ACC season, especially if FSU is great again and the conference showdown goes the wrong way. As if there wasn’t enough of a South Carolina problem, now it’s on the road. However …

Clemson Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios

Best Case Scenario: The Tigers only leave South Carolina four times, and if everything is right, they sweep all four ACC road games and get past the Gamecocks to close out the regular season.

Realistically, there’s a misfire somewhere - like against LSU to open things up, or on the road against Georgia Tech or on a bad day against Louisville. But that’s about it.

Worst Case Scenario: The Tigers lose to the other Tigers in the opener, they whiff the ACC opener against Georgia Tech, and that sets the tone for a slew of bad days. Florida State or SMU pull off a win, and to make it all worse, South Carolina wins in brutal late fashion again.

What Will Happen: (Jan. 29) If Clemson gets by LSU, look out. They might not be one the five-best teams in the country, but they’ll flirt with the top of the rankings for a while.

There will be two bad days somewhere - Florida State might be stronger again, Syracuse is dangerous, and there are enough landmines to be a problem. But it’s Clemson - it’ll get to 10-2, and it'll end up in the ACC Championship again.

The What Will Happen will be updated several times this offseason
