Cleveland Browns Shedeur Sanders: Former NFL GM Makes Bold Claim About Former Colorado QB
- Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders (12) throws during day two of NFL rookie minicamp at the Cleveland Browns training facility on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in Berea, Ohio.

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was one of the huge storylines of the 2025 NFL Draft. While some projected him as a first-round pick, he fell all the way to the fifth round before being taken by Cleveland. Sanders is one of the most polarizing players in the league. There are some who believe he will be a quality starting quarterback, and others who believe it makes sense that he fell to the fifth round. One former NFL GM made a bold prediction about the young quarterback’s future.

Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Destined For Greatness?

Former NFL general manager Scot McCloughan made an appearance on the Pacman Jones Show to talk about various topics. As with many NFL discussions right now, the topic of Shedeur Sanders came up. The Cleveland Browns don’t have a clear starter on the roster, and many have been wondering about the chances the Colorado quarterback starts in 2025. McCloughan doesn’t just think he will be a starter in the NFL, but the best quarterback of this class.

“I think he’ll be the best quarterback out of this draft. When it’s all said and done, when his career is said and done, he’ll be the best QB out of this draft.”

That is a bold take. Miami QB Cam Ward was taken with the first overall pick, and plenty of other quality quarterbacks went before Sanders. However, this class is one of the weaker classes in recent memory, so the Colorado quarterback could easily become one of the better quarterbacks, if not the best one, of the class.

Crazy Take Or Not?

The stats for Shedeur Sanders last season at Colorado were impressive. He threw for 4,134 yards and led all of college football with a 74.0 completion percentage. Sanders added 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Many detractors have pointed to a lack of footwork and an okay arm as to why the young quarterback will not make it in the league. However, we’ve seen many late-round quarterbacks become quality starters and even Hall of Famers.

Final Thoughts

It is important to note that he may not be a starter for the Cleveland Browns. Many have named him as a name to watch in the trade market. If he plays well in the preseason and a quarterback for another team goes down with an injury, the Browns could look to move him. Whatever happens, his journey will be incredibly interesting to watch.
