Cleveland Browns should be taking a look at one of Baker Mayfield’s former targets who just became available

The Cleveland Browns are working their way down to 53 players ahead of the NFL’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Cleveland has already parted ways with several players and traded away two others—defensive tackle Jowon Briggs and quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Over the next couple of days, however, it won’t be all subtraction. The Browns hold the No. 2 spot on the waiver wire for the first three weeks of the season.

A former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout could fit Cleveland’s needs

One of Baker Mayfield’s targets just hit the market, as the Buccaneers waived former sixth-round pick Trey Palmer. Entering his third season, Palmer appeared in 32 games with 11 starts for Tampa Bay, recording 51 catches for 557 yards and four touchdowns.

The Buccaneers’ deep wide receiver room left Palmer as the odd man out. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound wideout began his college career at LSU before transferring to Nebraska, where he was eventually drafted.

For Cleveland, Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, Jamari Thrash, and Isaiah Bond are locks at the position. The Browns also appear ready to keep undrafted free agent Gage Larvadain, which would make six wide receivers on the roster—a feasible number since the team traded Pickett and is carrying three quarterbacks. Kaden Davis and David Bell remain in the mix as well.

Cleveland wouldn’t officially be awarded any waiver claims until Wednesday, but adding another receiver to what remains an unproven group beyond Jeudy would make a lot of sense.
