Closer Look at the SEC: Best & Worst Teams of This Decade

Now that we are halfway through the 2020’s, it is a good time to see how each SEC team has done to this point. Here is a closer look at all 18 schools that are currently members of the conference

Top Tier

1. Georgia: 61-7 (89.7%)

2. Alabama: 59-10 (85.5%)

3. Ole Miss: 44-18 (71.0%)

4. Texas: 45-20 (69.2%)

5. Oklahoma: 42-21 (66.7%)

6. Tennessee: 40-22 (64.5%)

7. LSU: 40-23 (63.5%)

Review: This top tier is relatively large, mostly because of the recent additions of Texas and Oklahoma, who both dominated the Big 12 before moving to the SEC. Overall, this tier really should be Top Tier and Elite Tier, because Georgia and Alabama are above and beyond the other five programs in this group.

Middle Tier

8. Texas A&M: 37-23 (61.7%)

9. Missouri: 38-24 (61.3%)

10. Kentucky: 33-29 (53.2%)

11. Florida: 33-30 (52.4%)

12. South Carolina: 31-30 (50.8%)

Review: There are a few schools in this tier that are trending in opposite directions. Missouri is 21-5 over the last two seasons and South Carolina is coming off its best season since 2017, while Kentucky just had its worst season since 2013. There is potential for plenty of drastic movement in this group over the next five years.

Bottom Tier

13. Arkansas: 30-31 (49.2%)

14. Auburn: 28-33 (45.9%)

15. Mississippi State: 27-34 (44.3%)

16. Vanderbilt: 16-42 (27.6%)

Review: These are the only four schools that are under 50% during the first half of the decade. But for Vanderbilt, they are in an entirely different category. Even coming off a 7-6 season in 2024, the Commodores have far-and-away been the worst SEC team. As for the other three, plenty of questions still remain which leaves a move to the middle tier during the next five years in doubt.
