Matthew Driscoll stepped down as North Florida's men's basketball head coach for a power conference job.

On Thursday, North Florida announced that Driscoll is leaving the Atlantic Sun program after 16 seasons. The school confirmed that he accepted an offer to join Jerome Tang's Kansas State staff as an associate head coach.

"We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who made this experience meaningful for our family. The constant and unwavering support of so many within the community helped shape our program and for that we will always be grateful," Driscoll said in a statement. "As we move forward with God's plan to prosper and give hope for the future, we revert to the most valued aspect of life, that it is truly about the relationships you forge, and those connections will be with us forever. We leave knowing the program is in great hands and will continue to thrive. Thank you for the privilege to serve the University of North Florida and this community. We will remain proud Ospreys for life."

Driscoll leaves as North Florida's all-time wins leader (248). The three-time ASUN Conference Coach of the Year steered the Ospreys to their first March Madness appearance in 2015.

Despite finishing 15-17, North Florida opened the 2024-25 season with Power Four victories over South Carolina and Georgia Tech. The school had previously never defeated an SEC or ACC team.

Driscoll moves to Kansas State, which went 16-17 in Tang's third season as head coach. The Wildcats, who haven't reached the Final Four since 1964, made the Elite Eight in 2023

Kansas State hired Driscoll's son, Chase Driscoll, as the program's new video and analytics director last week. He'd spent four seasons as an assistant at North Florida, his alma mater.

Bobby Kennen, as associate head coach who joined Matthew Driscoll's staff in 2009, will replace his longtime boss as North Florida's head coach.

"[Driscoll] consistently championed character development and community engagement," athletic director Nick Morrow said. "He embodied what it truly means to be a servant leader. While he departs as the winningest coach in program and ASUN Conference history, his greater legacy lies in his unwavering commitment to excellence and his genuine care for every person he encountered. On behalf of Osprey nation: Thank you, Coach Driscoll, for everything you have done for the North Florida family. We wish you nothing but success in the next chapter of your journey."
