College football programs have always enjoyed showing off their players' academic progress off the field.

During the recruiting process, teams tout their academic standing and team GPA to prospective athletes. We also often see programs post about their team academic achievements on social media. While many don't care, it's not the worst thing in the world to illustrate that your players are handling their business in the classroom.

Unless, that is, your team GPA isn't nearly as impressive as you think it is. That's what happened when Texas State tried showing off its team-record fall GPA on Monday.

The Bobcats, who finished 8-5 this season and beat North Texas in the First Responder Bowl, earned a cumulative GPA of 2.84 last semester, which the program touted on X/Twitter.

"Winning in the classroom and on the field #EatEmUp | #TakeBackTexas," Texas State wrote alongside a graphic displaying the team's average.

Considering there are over 100 players on a college football team, that's not a horrible team GPA, but it's also not a great one overall. Naturally, the Bobcats are being clowned for the post.

"My condolences to the social media manager and graphic designer who were told they had to do this, likely by a coach with self-proclaimed social media expertise," said former college athletics administrator Miles McQuiggan.

"8-5 with a 2.84 GPA. Hang the banner!" joked the JMU Sports account.

"I had a 2.8 in college and I didn’t get a graphic smh," cracked Las Vegas Sun writer Jack Williams.

"Bros are about to get WRECKED for this," another person chimed in.

"Is there some silent NCAA rule that obligates football programs to post team GPAs on social? I will never understand this. Your fan base won’t care if it’s 4.0, opposing fan bases will windmill dunk on you if it’s low. Just win games. Not all engagement is good engagement." a fifth person commented.

Texas State has gone 16-10 in the last two seasons under GJ Kinne, posting the first bowl victories in program history. The Bobcats are on their way up, but they are probably going to think twice before they make another academic-related tweet.
