Concepcion Would be a Good Replacement for Waddle

How do you replace an electric playmaker at wide receiver?

Easy, add another one.

Earlier in March, the Dolphins decided to expedite their rebuild by shipping Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos for the 30th overall pick, among others.

With that 30th pick, Miami could add a dynamic player in former Texas A&M receiver Kevin Concepcion (who goes by KC for short).

Concepcion was one of the best receivers in the country last year, as he was named a first-team All-American and Paul Hornung Award Winner (best receiver in the nation).

Along with his nine receiving touchdowns, the transfer from North Carolina State also had two punt return touchdowns.

Does that sound familiar?

To me, it sounds a lot like the scouting report on Waddle when he came out of Alabama in the 2021 draft as someone who could take it to the house on a long pass or on a punt return.

Also, while he has elite speed with a 4.43 40-yard dash to take the top off a defense, Concepcion can also use his short-area quickness to beat nickelbacks and linebackers across the middle.

With the Dolphins not currently possessing a ton of other speed on the outside, Concepcion would have to beat teams over the middle, which he has the talent to do so.

Concepcion’s quickness would also serve as a security blanket for new starting quarterback, Malik Willis, as the Dolphins currently do not have a threat at tight end with the departure of Darren Waller and Julian Hill.

I know historically that the Green Bay Packers, where Jeff Hafley and Jon-Eric Sullivan just came from, traditionally have not taken wide receivers in the first round aside from Matthew Golden a year ago.

However, Concepcion might just be too good a prospect for the Dolphins’ brass to pass up.

If they want to give the offense and special teams units a jolt,  they need to go and get KC Concepcion in the first round of next month’s draft.
