Could Emeka Egbuka be the Patriots' Steal of the Draft?

Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka could be one of the best value picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and the New England Patriots might be in the perfect position to land him. Currently projected as a top-40 prospect, Egbuka is often slotted in early second-round mock drafts. If he remains available at pick No. 38, the Patriots could provide second-year quarterback Drake Maye with a dynamic weapon—potentially one of the biggest steals of the draft.

Egbuka was highly productive at Ohio State, showcasing elite route-running, quickness, and versatility. However, concerns about his long speed have kept him out of the first-round conversation. His 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine will be a major factor in determining his draft stock—if he posts an impressive time, teams could start viewing him as a late first-round talent.

Bleacher Report’s Dame Parson believes Egbuka has superstar potential, even comparing him to Detroit Lions standout Amon-Ra St. Brown. In his scouting report, Parson highlighted Egbuka’s polished route-running and ability to create separation, particularly from the slot.

"Placing Egbuka in a timing and rhythm offense is best for his ability and NFL future," Parson stated. "He wins from the slot with nuance and detailed route running. He manipulates off-coverage defenders with his quickness out of the breaks and is a smooth, fluid mover."

The Patriots desperately need an offensive playmaker, and Egbuka fits the mold of a reliable, high-upside target for Maye. If his draft stock remains in the early second round, New England could capitalize on the opportunity to land a game-changing receiver—one who could quickly become Maye’s go-to option in the passing game.
