Cowboys' Jaydon Blue As Advertised In Preseason Debut vs. Falcons

There were plenty of things to watch in the Dallas Cowboys' preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons, and in the 31-13 win, it was Jaydon Blue who caught most people's attention.

After a superb preseason, Blue, who had been dealing with a foot/ankle injury that sidelined him for two weeks, got his first taste of NFL action, and he looked as advertised at AT&T Stadium.

Rushing for 25 yards and a tough touchdown on nine carries, Jaydon's vision and acceleration were on show as his home-run potential was there for all to see.

But the football gods decided to play a cruel game, with Blue hurting his ankle in the second half before being taken out of the game, which ended his promising debut on a sour note.

But according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, he doesn't think it will be too serious.

“We'll take a look, I don't think it's anything crazy,” Schottenheimer said. “I don't think it's going to be anything too bad, up and down had some good runs. They were doing a nice job with some of the things that we got. We had a screen that I thought had a chance for some more, but you see the talent, you see the acceleration. Wish we could have got him a little bit more, but you're obviously going to be cautious in a situation like this in the last preseason game.”

Blue has since made it clear that it's an ankle sprain and that he's not overly concerned.

Blue did have some good moments in his debut, which was highlighted by a 13-yard run at the Atlanta 15-yard line.

Taking the handoff on a second-and-10, Blue showed patience, cut back, found the hole and burst through, before being taken down by three Falcons defenders, and a couple of plays later, he powered home for a one-yard touchdown run.

“It was great to see,” Schottenheimer added. “We were what, three for three in the red zone, he had a great touchdown run.”

So, Blue has made the final roster; there's no debating that, but where will he land on the depth chart? Is it conceivable that he could be Javonte Williams' backup for Week 1?

Granted, we will have to see the outcome of his injury first, but there's every chance that Blue could feature against the Philadelphia Eagles.
