Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton needed a good performance in the final preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, and in the 31-13 win at AT&T Stadium, Milton looked at home.
Leading multiple touchdown drives, operating the offense in a way we haven't seen this preseason, delivering accurate balls, playing on time, and not rifling the ball to his receivers, Joe can be content with his work.
Given how the first two preseason games went, is there a hint of relief that things finally came together against Atlanta?
"I wouldn't say relief, because if you say relief, then that's just basically being complacent, I'm not a complacent person," Milton said. "So just trying to build from this one. There are some things that I can clean up during this game. So just try to keep working at those things and just the things I did well. Just keep trying to get those throws after practice and during practice. So just keep chipping away."
With Milton looking the best he has all preseason, the question marks over the backup quarterback position might have dissipated, as Joe showed the sort of potential he has playing the position.
But what made him able to go out and perform the way he did against the Falcons?
“Just starting to get more comfortable with the offense,” Milton said. “Just playing exactly how Schotty want me to, run those plays and doing what the team needs.”
Now, Joe will revert to the backup role behind Dak Prescott, and while his preseason as a whole was up and down, he put good things on film against the Falcons to show the coaching staff that the situation might not be as dire if No. 4 goes down.
