Cowboys Reveal Tyler Booker's Depth-Chart Move 'Response'

Dallas Cowboys rookie right guard Tyler Booker is going through all the trials and tribulations of an NFL training camp in Oxnard.

The first-round pick, who is slated to begin Week 1 as a starter, replacing Zack Martin, had a good start to his offseason program in OTAs, minicamp, and then training camp.

But things dipped a little for the Alabama stud in Oxnard, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer decided to "demote" Booker to the second team and give Rob Jones Tyler's spot.

That move could have gone one of two ways. Booker could have pouted, given his draft status, or he could put his head down and work even harder.

Well, it was the latter.

“We made the move the other day, but the way he responded, to being put down on the second team, that shows you, man, he's wired the right way and he's got the right stuff,” Schottenheimer said. “He came back, I thought he had a really, really good day. Part of the success that we had in the run game was some of the double teams and fits that he was creating in there with our tackles and Beebe and all that stuff.”

With Jones breaking a bone in his neck and now missing the next two to three months, Booker will likely get back with the first team, but the "demotion" should serve as a reminder not to let the standards slip.

After all, T.J. Bass and Nate Thomas have also been having a solid training camp, so don't think Schottenheimer won't hesitate to pull the trigger again if Booker's play isn't up to standard.

But the best thing is that the rookie took it on the chin and came back with a vengeance.

He knows what's at stake here.
