Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent interview with Piers Morgan is going viral — and among all the things the Portuguese striker said, his comments about LeBron James stood out as one of the high points.
For many fans, both players are considered the best of their generation — the GOATs of their respective sports. While there will always be those who disagree, Cristiano addressed LeBron James directly for the first time in his career.
They both belong to a very specific category of athletes who have gone beyond the “normal age” for soccer or basketball. Most players retire years before LeBron and Cristiano, yet both continue to compete at the highest level.
When asked who inspires him at 41 years old, Cristiano named LeBron James — and himself — but also mentioned a familiar face from his Real Madrid days.
“Athletes that inspire me? Myself. LeBron James — I think we’re the same age, but I have more hair than him,” Cristiano said. “Luka Modrić is also still looking good.”

While LeBron James most likely had his farewell with Team USA during the Paris Olympics, Cristiano is preparing for his own last dance with Portugal at the 2026 World Cup — with arguably the strongest generation in the country’s history.
LeBron could still extend his playing career to compete one final time at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, but that would mean two more years of intense training and recovery work. So far in the 2025/26 NBA season, LeBron hasn’t played a single game due to injury.
