Crunchyroll is getting set for a price hike.

The streaming service, which houses one of the biggest libraries of anime films and series, sent an email to subscribers informing them of rising costs.

It follows hot on the heels of Crunchyroll merging with Funimation, a similar anime streaming service hosting series such as My Hero Academia, Drifters and Fairy Tail.

When Funimation ends its service on April 2, 2024, all content will be accessible on Crunchyroll. Subscribers to Funimation can migrate to Crunchyroll, keeping their watch history and queue.

As a result, Crunchyroll subscriptions will increase from $54.95 per year to $99.99 per year. The change goes into effect January 28, 2025.

Currently, Crunchyroll has three subscription tiers:

  • Fan for $7.99 per month
  • Mega Fan for $9.99 per month
  • Ultimate Fan for $14.99 per month

“Each of these plans streams in HD (1080p),” reads Crunchyroll’s website, “while the two higher-tiered plans offer multiple-device viewing, discounts on merchandise, and first access to events.”

Also, Funimation subscribers apparently won’t get to keep their purchased content.

“Please note that Crunchyroll does not support Funimation Digital copies, which means that access to previously available digital copies will not be supported,” reads the email.
