NEON has shared the unsettling official trailer for Tilman Singer's sophomore feature Cuckoo, starring Hunter Schafer.

The indie studio dropped a brief teaser in February, which gave very little away about what to expect from the film following 17-year-old Gretchen, who leaves North America to join her father in a resort in the German Alps.

Shot on 35mm, Cuckoo's captivating aesthetic is displayed in the new preview, which dives deeper while maintaining the mystery established in the teaser.

Cuckoo premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in February before making its way overseas to the South by Southwest Film Festival, and first reviews say it's "a body horror gem" and "deliriously entertaining".

Not only does Singer have the critics on his side, but he also has Ayo Edebiri, who responded to the trailer by saying, "I'm seated."

NEON shared a more in-depth synopsis of the film: Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr König, her father's boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen's mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn't seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.

Cuckoo will hit theaters nationwide on August 9.
