Dale Earnhardt Jr. has heard the new song by Morgan Wallen where he mentions Dale Earnhardt Sr. On Dale Jr. Download, Earnhardt Jr. shared his reaction to the country music star giving a shoutout to the NASCAR legend.
“I always like it when they talk nice about dad,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. “Anytime he’s kind of referenced in a song, I think it’s kind of cool. It’s a different generation, younger people appreciating his legacy and all that good stuff. It’s kind of cool how his legacy has lived on and continues to be kind of something discussed in pop culture.”
The song where Dale Earnhardt Sr. is referenced is “Number 3 and Number 7,” and it also features Eric Church. The “Number 3” represents the Car No. Earnhardt drove during his career, and the “Number 7” represents Jack Daniels.
In the song, Morgan Wallen says, “Makin’ grown man mistakes, Puttin’ Earnhardt to shame,” and “We all get more second chances than we should, And number three and number seven don’t add up to much good.”
“Number 3 and Number 7” is from Wallen’s new alubm I’m the Problem. During a recent album listening event, Wallen talked about how the song came about.
“I cut that song strictly because I wanted Eric Church on the song. So I asked him beforehand if he wanted to get on it, before I recorded it in the studio,” Wallen said, per Holler.
“I’ve said many times how much of an impact Eric has had on me as a musician and as an artist, and now he’s become one of my closest friends. Just to have a mentor and a friend like that is super special. I’m still a big fan of his art, and the way that he evolves as a musician. I think as long as we keep making songs that fit well together, he’s just going to be a staple on the things that I do for the future.”
The song comes as Prime Video gets set to release a docuseries focused on Dale Earnahrdt Sr. The docuseries, which is called Earnhardt, will premiere on May 22 and dive into the history of the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.
