The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly finished their pre-draft workout with Cooper Flagg, and members within the organization were impressed with what they saw from the Duke Blue Devils star.
It’s almost a certainty that the Dallas Mavericks are taking Flagg with the first overall pick of this summer’s NBA Draft. They miraculously landed the pick after having only a 1.8 percent chance of getting it, sparking conspiracy theories about the league’s draft lottery process.
“Ahead of the draft, one of the biggest knocks against Flagg has been his jumper and being able to space the floor in a frontcourt that includes Anthony Davis and two rim-rolling centers in Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford, but he put that concern to rest in his first-ever Mavericks workout,” Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban reported.
“According to a league source, Flagg shot the ball “insanely well,” burying jumper after jumper, during his hour-long workout at the Dallas Mavericks’ practice facility, and he dazzled throughout. This source was blown away by what they witnessed from Flagg, stating that he was “even better” than they initially expected him to be,” he added.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Cooper Flagg will likely end up with the Dallas Mavericks to begin his NBA career. As the hype around him continues to grow, Flagg plans to stay focused on the present rather than thinking about what the future holds.
“I think the biggest thing is … not trying to think too far into the future, not worrying about what’s coming down the road, but just focusing on right here, right now, on what I can control and just making most out of every single day,” Flagg said in an interview with SI’s Chris Mannix.
In his lone season with the Duke Blue Devils, Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks on 48/39/84 shooting splits across 37 appearances.
