There has always been speculation around Dana White’s future as UFC boss, but lately, a potential new figurehead has started to emerge.
Despite the rumours, White has been consistent in his stance. Even earlier this year, he insisted he had no plans to step away from his role.
The 56-year-old chief was originally the president for most of his time with the UFC before last year’s TKO Group Holdings restructure moved him into the CEO position.
But if White does decide to step down, a former two-division champion has put his hand up for the job.
Daniel Cormier, a UFC Hall of Famer, has remained in good standing with Dana White since retiring from fighting in 2020. He has since transitioned into a successful career as a colour commentator.
Working alongside Jon Anik and Joe Rogan, Cormier has become a regular voice on UFC broadcasts. He recently shared that stepping into the CEO role would be a dream job if the opportunity ever arose.
“That would be a dream job for anybody. Of course, I would love to do something – if they ever trusted me with that, I would do the best job I ever could do.
“It’s one of the greatest organizations in the world. It’s one of the biggest sports organizations in the world, and they’ve done such a great job of building it that the job itself is just, ‘Don’t f— it up’.
“…Dana is so passionate about it, that I can’t imagine the UFC without him, but if not, absolutely,” he stated on the Club Shay Shay podcast.
If Cormier really wants his chance at running things, though, he may have to wait some time before he gets his shot.
Since co-founding Zuffa LLC with Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta in 2001, Dana White has maintained a significant role in the UFC.
When WME-IMG purchased the promotion in 2016, he held onto a 9% stake and continued as president, staying closely linked to the company’s direction.
Earlier this year, White made it clear he had no interest in stepping away from his position. In an interview on the Tucker Carlson podcast, he stated plainly:
“I will never retire. Ever,” White said. “I will keep dogging this out until the day I drop dead. I love it, 100 percent.”
