While Travis Hunter is preparing for his rookie season in the NFL after being drafted No. 2 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars, he recently shared some life-changing news: he and his wife, Leanna Lenee, have welcomed their first child.
The couple, who began dating in 2022, tied the knot earlier this year after Hunter proposed in 2024 while finishing his collegiate career at Colorado under head coach Deion Sanders.
On Tuesday, Sanders was asked about Hunter’s exciting personal milestone during his media availability ahead of Colorado’s Week 2 matchup. The Hall of Famer shared both his pride and a heartfelt piece of fatherly advice for his former star player.
“Oh my god, I’m taking a deep breath because I love him to life — I love him like he’s my son,” Sanders said. “It’s funny when your son is now a father… it’s a beautiful thing.
"The thing that I told him is let’s correct all the things that we think we didn’t receive as children and let’s do that in our fatherhood. No matter what happens, let’s make sure we are the best darn father that ever walked. That’s what I told him. I’m proud of him, I love him to life, and I miss him dearly.”

Travis Hunter has grown right in front of Deion Sanders’ eyes over the past three years, ever since he committed to play for him during Sanders’ second season as head coach at Jackson State.
Hunter put his trust in Sanders — still relatively new to the college coaching ranks at the time — instead of joining a powerhouse program like Florida State, where many believed he would end up. That choice took him to Jackson State for one season before following Sanders to Colorado, where he played alongside Deion’s sons, Shedeur and Shilo. In the end, the gamble paid off.
Hunter went on to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy and now has the chance to become one of the rarest players in NFL history if he can play both sides of the ball for the Jaguars, just as he did under Sanders in college.
