Did 'Satisfying' Preseason Win Save QB's Bills Roster Spot?

Roster cuts are happening across the league, and for Buffalo Bills quarterback Shane Buechele, his performance in the preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might have carried more weight than he thought.

The 23-19 win saw Buechele finish his day going 25 of 30 for 278 yards and a touchdown, while he also rushed for 20 yards. That is quite the performance when your Bills career is on the line.

"It was really satisfying," Buechele said. "After the Chicago game, that's what we wanted to do. We wanted to put drives together and they called a great game and our teammates just all 11 of us, man, we worked hard for this moment and put a couple drives together and had a lot of fun out there."

As it turns out, satisfying might not be enough to express his level of performance, because with roster cuts happening, it was Mike White who was released, and Buechele stays on the roster to be the third quarterback behind Josh Allen and Mitch Trubisky.

White and Trubisky were locked in a battle for the backup quarterback role, but neither played in the final preseason outing, leaving Buechele to play the entire game.

Did his performance sway the coaching staff in their decision to part ways with White? Possibly, but it goes to show that while some think the preseason is a waste of time, it is crucial in evaluating positions on the roster underneath the starters.

And for Buechele, that "satisfying" Buccaneers win, feels even more so now.
