Dolphins Expected to Sign Kicker Riley Patterson

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that the Miami Dolphins are expected to sign kicker Riley Patterson in the next day or so to replace Jason Sanders for the first four to five games of the season.

Patterson was one of four kickers Miami worked out on Tuesday.

Patterson will turn 26 when Miami plays Indy Week 1 of the regular season, and has been in the league since 2021. He has played on a lot of teams since entering the league, including moving around six times in 2024 and being on 5 rosters.

Since 2021, Patterson has been on the Vikings, Patriots, Lions, Jaguars, back to the Lions, Browns, back to the Jaguars, Commanders, Jets, Falcons, back to the Jaguars, and then back to the Falcons.

Last season, he was on six of those teams, but some of those stints were in training camp or just on the practice squad.

In 2024, he was 4 of 7 on field goals, with 3 of the makes being under 39 yards, and he was 12 for 12 on extra points.  All of those kicks were for Atlanta.

Eddy Pineiro has a better resume and is a more recognizable name that Dolphins fans on social media are clamoring for.

Pineiro was born and raised in Miami, FL, and played college football at Florida.

He has kicked for the Raiders, Bears, Colts, Commanders, Jets, and Panthers.

Last season, in 17 games with the Carolina Panthers, Pineiro was 22 of 26 on field goals, including 1 of 2 on field goals over 50 yards.

He also made 33 of 35 extra points on the season.

From a PFF perspective, he scored out 59.9 and was ranked 34 out of 43 kickers.

But it appears Patterson is Miami’s first choice.

Jason

Sanders has been Miami’s kicker since 2018 and one of the better kickers in the NFL over that time.

Last year for Miami, he was 26 of 28 on extra points and 37 of 41 on field goals.
