Several players signed deals during the first few days of NFL free agency. Tight end David Njoku hasn’t landed a contract yet, but he’ll surely sign with a team soon. Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports predicts the Miami Dolphins will sign Njoku:

“After nine seasons, longtime Browns tight end David Njoku will likely be playing for a different team in 2026. He is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career, as Njoku caught 33 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games while appearing to take a back seat to rookie phenom Harold Fannin Jr. Njoku turns 30 this summer. Still, he was a productive and athletic pass catcher for the Browns for years. Njoku’s 384 career receptions rank third in Browns history, his 4,062 yards receiving rank 12th, and his 34 receiving touchdowns rank sixth. The Miami Dolphins offense is going to look very different with Malik Willis replacing Tua Tagovailoa, and Njoku would provide a versatile security blanket for a young quarterback who is getting his first shot to be a full-time starter.”

Njoku’s Career Thus Far

David Njoku played college football at Miami (FL). During his two seasons with the Hurricanes, he caught 64 passes for 1,060 yards, and nine touchdowns.

The Browns selected Njoku in the first round (29th overall pick) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He started five of his 16 games as a rookie, catching 32 passes for 386 yards and four touchdowns. Njoku became a starter the following year, recording 56 receptions, 639 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. He played in just four games, though, during the 2019 season due to injury.

Njoku was a solid contributor over the next few years. In 2023, he caught 81 passes for 882 yards and six touchdowns (all career-highs). As a result, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. Missing six games due to injury in 2024, he posted 64 receptions, 505 receiving yards, and five touchdowns.

This past season, Njoku was a key part of the Browns’ offense before rookie Harold Fannin Jr. took over as the starter. Njoku caught 33 passes for 293 yards, and four touchdowns in 2025.

Should the Dolphins Sign Him?

The Dolphins have been busy this offseason, making a flurry of moves to help remake their roster under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan.

In terms of the tight end position, Miami retained Greg Dulcich, who was third on the team in receiving yards last season with 335. They also signed former Minnesota Viking Ben Sims.
