Dolphins Stock Up/Stock Down Report: Dolphins vs Jaguars Recap

The third preseason game is in the books, and the Miami Dolphins came out on top over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Most of the starters played a series or two in this game, then the backups got their final chance to make an impression and to win a roster spot.

Here is my Stock Up/Stock Down report.

STOCK UP

Malik Washington: He is going to have a massive role for the Dolphins this year in this offense. This isn’t a case of him getting a lot of passes thrown to him because Tyreek Hill isn’t playing. They have designed plays for him, and he is moving the chains. As a WR4 to open the season, Washington is going to be a guy who I can see making a lot of big catches in big spots this season for Miami.

Ollie Gordon: This guy had the best August of maybe anyone in the entire NFL. From RB4 to RB2 (well, he better be RB2), and if Achane’s injury is serious and causes him to miss Week 1, he is going to be your Week 1 starter (well, he should be). Another strong performance tonight, with the 1st string offense, and he didn’t disappoint. Picked up a blitz on a 3rd down, and picked it up like a champ. Ran tough up the middle and brought the physicality that Miami is lacking.

Derrick McLendon: He had another sack tonight and played very well. Dolphins OLB Coach Ryan Crow should get a lot of credit for how this young player has developed in this training camp. I don’t know if he will make the roster, but hopefully Miami can keep him on the practice squad.

Tahj Washington: I spoke about this on the podcast Friday evening. I think Tahj is making this roster, but it’s no sure thing. His performance tonight might have sealed the roster spot.

Erik Ezukanma: Yes, another Dolphins wide receiver had an outstanding evening. People may have forgotten about Erik due to his numerous injuries over the past few years, but when healthy, he is a formidable weapon. And at 6’2″, he gives Miami something they only have in NWI, size at wide receiver. I would not be shocked in the least if Ezukanma makes this roster.

STOCK DOWN

Larry Borom: He is awful. I’m sorry for being so blunt, and I don’t like to attack a player this way in a column on here, but I gotta call it like I see it. Just looked totally overmatched vs the Jaguars’ second-string defense, and he is a total liability out there. It is too late in the process to add a backup swing tackle or a “third tackle” as your primary backup, so McDaniel and Grier better pray that Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson don’t get hurt this season. Failure to prepare for a backup tackle really was a huge oversight this offseason.

Jason Sanders Injury: At the time of this writing I have no idea if the injury is serious or not, but Sanders has been a staple of this team for many years now and if he is injured (as speculated as he was seen walking off the field with a trainer) it would be a huge blow if Miami has to go find another kicker for the short-term or the long-term.
