Donnet’s Quarterfinal Exit at ITF M15

In a thrilling display of talent and skill, fifth-year senior Etienne Donnet and sophomore Will Mayew made their mark at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) M15 in Tallahassee, Florida. Going head-to-head with top players from around the world, both Cardinals showed their mettle in both singles and doubles competitions.

Donnet and Mayew joined forces in doubles, starting their campaign with a resounding victory in the Round of 16. They defeated Mwendwa Mbithi and Lawrence Sciglitano with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-3. However, their journey was cut short in the quarterfinals as they fell to the top-seeded duo in straight sets.

In the singles competition, both Cardinals showcased their prowess on the court. Mayew kicked off his campaign with an impressive win in the Round of 32. Unfortunately, his run came to an end in the next round as he was defeated by the No. 8 seed, Felix Corwin, in straight sets.

On the other hand, Donnet’s journey in singles had more success. He started off with a dominant victory in the Round of 32, defeating Lawrence Sciglitano with a score of 6-1, 7-6 (0). Building on this momentum, Donnet then cruised to a straight-set victory in the Round of 16, defeating Rei Sakamoto 6-2, 6-2. However, his quest for the title ended in the quarterfinals as he faced off against the top-seeded player, Jeremy Jin, and was defeated 6-3, 6-2.

With the ITF M15 in Tallahassee now behind them, the Cardinals will conclude their fall season at the Notre Dame Invitational from November 3rd to November 5th. It will be an opportunity for the team to showcase their skills and test their mettle against tough competitors.
