In Doom: The Dark Ages, Chapter 6, titled “Siege – Part 1”, presents players with the optional “Siege Breaker” challenge. This task involves locating and destroying four artillery cannons scattered across the battlefield.

Completing this challenge rewards players with the Reverent weapon skin for the Combat Shotgun, enhancing both your arsenal and your Slayer’s style. Get out there, break those cannons, and then you’ll look awesome afterwards!

Mission Synopsis: Siege Part 1 – Doom: The Dark Ages

Siege Part 1 is a climactic mission in Doom: The Dark Ages that plunges players into the middle of a massive battle-worn battlefield infested with hellish creatures. The mission is set in the charred wreckage of a besieged fortress, which is a significant tonal and gameplay shift, and introduces large-scale combat scenario challenges and objective-based challenges.

Players have to push back waves of enemy troops while supporting the Night Sentinel army in their defensive campaigns. The wide layout encourages scouting, with multiple routes and vantage points, and ambient storyline displays devastation created by Hell’s relentless advance. The mission also provides the optional “Siege Breaker” challenge, where you have to discover and destroy four cannons of artillery to weaken enemy fire. With brutal combat, stealth upgrades, and cinematic violence, Siege Part 1 sets the benchmark for massive Slayer battles.

It’s one of the bigger missions in the game, with lots of secrets to find and lots of demons to slaughter. As much as you don’t HAVE TO do the challenge, if you’re a completionist or simply want to have a rad skin on your weapon, you’ll be required to.

Overview of the Siege Breaker Challenge

The cannons of the artillery are positioned in the open, large field that is revealed after the initial battle scenes. They are not only well-protected by dark forces but also strategically positioned to test your fighting and navigation skills. All the cannons are positioned on a pile of gold, which makes them conspicuous from a distance.

Artillery Cannon Locations

1. Northwest Hill Cannon

Location: Top-left corner of the map, beyond the first Sentinel Shrine.
How to Access: From the Sentinel Shrine, go left, proceed through an archway, and break through a wooden blockade with your shield. Climb up the slope to access the cannon atop the hill.

2. Coastal Village Cannon

Location: Small village area in the far-left portion of the map, near a great leader battle fight.
How to Reach: Proceed to the coastal village clearing, where you will see a large cluster of enemies. Eliminate them to access and destroy the cannon.

3. Eastern Hill Cannon

Location: Hill between the first Sentinel Shrine and the one located at the top-right portion of the map.
How to Get There: From the first Sentinel Shrine, head to the middle path and proceed on the right branch. Take the left while ascending the hill to locate the cannon in front of a pile of gold.

4. Marshland Cannon

Where to Find: Top-right corner of the map, within the bounds of the marshes close to the larger gore portal arena.
How to Get There: Navigate through the marshlands, and be on the lookout for the cannon that is right outside the Gore Portal arena. It is advisable that you first clear the area of enemies before attempting to break the cannon.

Tips for Success

Use the Automap: The automap will prove useful in tracking your journey and not missing a cannon.
Listen for Audio Cues: The sound of the artillery cannons is different when they’re firing. Listen for these audio cues to find them more effectively.
Prepare for Combat: Every cannon is protected by tough enemies. Make sure you’re well-armed and ready for intense combat.
Collect Nearby Resources: After destroying every cannon, be sure to gather the gold and other resources nearby to help on your quest.

Final Thoughts

By discovering (although a bit laboriously) and destroying all four cannons in Siege Part 1, you’ll have completed the Siege Breaker challenge and the highly coveted Reverent weapon skin. This achievement makes your weapon look stunning and demonstrates that you care and are competent in Doom: The Dark Ages.
