It was so much fun in football, so let’s do it in basketball, too.

The Blue Devils won the ACC Championship in a thriller on the football side, and they blew out Virginia in the only meeting in hoops, but this should be a far better battle.

The Cavaliers rolled through the last four games since the loss in Durham and come in on a 13-1 run.

Duke survived Florida State, stomped Clemson, and now it’s a win away from its 29th ACC Tournament championship. Virginia is going for its fourth.

Key Stats

- Virginia 17th in the nation and first in the ACC with 13.3 offensive rebounds per game, Duke is 13th in the nation and first in the ACC in defensive rebounds per game with close to 28.

Why Virginia Will Win: It will attack the boards

Duke shoots well, sets up the open shots, and has no fear of getting to the basket. However, it takes games up a few notches by pounding the offensive glass and getting second-chance points.

Virginia is amazing at holding its own, but it had a hard time in the first meeting, being outrebounded 34-25. That’s not happening in this.

Expect the Cavaliers to be far more aggressive and do a much, much better job on the offensive glass.

Why Duke Will Win: Get on the run from the start

Duke never let Clemson get going in the ACC semifinal after getting hot early, pushing the ball up the court in a flash, and setting up quickly for an easy shot on the way to a 41-22 halftime lead.

Virginia is more than happy to get on the move, but Duke’s offense is relentless.

The Cavaliers will hit their shots, but there’s a problem if they have to consistently rely on their threes against the Blue Devil D. Basically …

Duke vs Virginia Prediction

Duke will make a few more shots than Virginia will.

The Cavaliers will hold tough throughout the first half, but just when it seems like they’re about to break through, that’s when Duke will come up with the big shot to change the energy.

A fun fight will start to turn midway through the second half.

The Blue Devils will crank up the defensive intensity, Virginia will go through a bit of a drought, and the best team in the regular season will come away with the tournament title, too.
