The Philadelphia Eagles have placed a heavy emphasis on competition this offseason and nothing will enrich it more than a joint practice. The team announced on Tuesday that there will be a pair of joint practices this Summer, with the New York jets and New England Patriots both coming to town for a taste of what this new-look team has to offer.

Training Camp kicks off in exactly 14 days for the Eagles, with their preseason opener coming on August 12th against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The joint practices will take place on August 16th & 17th, for the Pats kickstarting the week following the opening preseason game with even more intensity. For the Jets, the dates are August 24th & 25th.

This won’t be the first time that the Eagles have hosted the Patriots in a joint practice, either. The Pats travelled to Philadelphia in 2013 & 2014. The last time the Eagles held a joint practice was in 2019 where they welcomed the Baltimore Ravens.

These practices will be a great opportunity for players to build on preseason momentum and experience a level of competition somewhere between camp and a game situation. It’s hard to replicate the intensity of a game day situation, but we’ve all seen the clips of just how intense these scrimmages can get. For what is a very young Eagles team, this experience will be huge in aiding their development by pitting them against veteran players form opposing teams who will be playing with a little more anger than their own teammates would be.
