It’s no secret that the Eagles are searching for more wide receiver help to round out their roster. That’s why they’ve traded for Jahan Dotson and John Metchie in each of the last two offseasons. Both players remain on the roster as they will compete for the No. 3 receiver spot, but we should fully expect Howie Roseman and the rest of the front office to continue to churn the bottom few receiver spots.

One potential option is Malachi Corley, a third-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, who was just released by the Jets on Tuesday. It was a rough rookie season for Corley, who struggled to get on the field due to his poor route running and limited receiver skills. But Corley was viewed as one of the top receivers in last year’s class and could be a very intriguing option in Philadelphia for multiple reasons.

Corley has ties to the Eagles front office

The Jets decided to move on from the former Western Kentucky star before he even played a snap in his second NFL season, and that is usually pretty telling. Corley has dealt with several lower-body injuries this offseason and missed a lot of practice time. It also doesn’t help that the Jets have a new front office and coaching staff, none of whom have any ties to Corley.

However, the Eagles could be a prime candidate to claim Corley, given that Joe Douglas, the general manager who drafted him, is now a part of the Philadelphia front office. Douglas was aggressive in trying to select Corley last year and spent a good chunk of Day 2 trying to trade up for him.

Corley is far from a polished receiver and his best work comes after the catch. That means he needs to go to an offense that will scheme him up touches and/or utilize him in the backfield. That might be a challenge for an offense that already has so many dynamic playmakers, but Corley is a talented option who can be had on waivers.

Given that Douglas thought so highly of him during the pre-draft process, don’t be surprised to see the Eagles put in a claim. However, it’s important to remember that the Eagles will have the last waiver claim after winning the Super Bowl, so they might decide to pass on claiming him and try to add Corley to the practice squad if he makes it that far.

Either way, expect the Eagles to have some interest here as Roseman loves nothing more than to acquire distressed assets at minimal cost.
