Eagles finally find their true Bryce Huff replacement with proposed trade

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is one that even with the roster cut deadline will find a way to work the phones and get a deal done before the season begins. Roseman has some options to pick from if he wants to.

Ed Kracz of Sports Illustrated had pitched two different trade options, with one of them being a bit stronger than the other. Kracz had first pitched Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips. Another option that would make more sense for the Eagles is Jacksonville Jaguars edge rusher Travon Walker.

"The Jaguars drafted him first overall in 2022 and picked up his fifth-year option, so he is signed through 2026. He has had back-to-back, double-digit sacks seasons, putting up 10 last year and 10.5 a season ago.

The Eagles would have to give up a first-round pick next year to make it happen, but it’s a pick that, if they do what is expected and make another deep playoff push, that pick would be closer to the second round anyway. The Jaguars don’t have a first-round pick next year after trading it away in the deal to land Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in the 2025 draft.

The Eagles would include Kelee Ringo and one of the three third-round picks they are expected to have next spring. A sweetener might be a fourth in 2027.

His salary cap charge is $11.8 million this year and $15.1M next season. And, oh yeah, Walker played at the University of Georgia."

Could Walker be the replacement for Bryce Huff that the Eagles have been looking for?

During the offseason, the Eagles signed edge rushers Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche. The team also drafted Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. before deciding to trade Huff to the San Francisco 49ers.

While many in Philly don't have the highest opinion of Huff, he has seemed to be more efficient than who the Eagles have brought in except for Uche. Powell-Ryland didn't even record any stats in the preseason until the last game. Ojulari was a mixed bag with his performances as he didn't nearly stand out the way the Eagles were hoping he would.

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has publicly acknowledged the backup edge rushers on the team have not done enough to separate themselves. Uche is the only one who has played well enough to get himself in the rotation.

At age 24, Walker is only getting back with back-to-back 10+ sack seasons in Jacksonville. It would be a bit of a hefty price for him, but with Ringo struggling mightily in training camp and preseason, it makes sense to package him in the deal. Even giving up a first-round pick is not the end of the world for the Eagles, as Walker would be more talented than any of the rookie pass rushers in the draft next year.

This is a trade Roseman should consider if he is looking to get one more edge rusher in there that can be a disruptor.
