The Philadelphia Eagles could lose another member of their coaching staff to the New Orleans Saints.
Kellen Moore celebrated a Super Bowl by landing a head coaching gig in New Orleans. Philadelphia's former offensive coordinator will reportedly interview another Eagles staffer for a key opening.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Saints interviewed Eagles quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier for their offensive coordinator vacancy on Sunday. Former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley also interviewed for the defensive coordinator job.
Before going to the Eagles, Nussmeier and Moore worked together on Staley's Chargers staff in 2023. With Nussmeier as the QBs coach and Moore as the OC, Justin Herbert posted a 93.2 passer rating for an offense that ranked 18th in total yards and 21st in scoring.
Nussmeier previously spent five years with Moore on the Dallas Cowboys. He started as a tight ends coach but transitioned to quarterbacks coach after Moore was promoted to offensive coordinator. They oversaw the league's top-ranked offense in 2021 behind 37 passing touchdowns from Dak Prescott.
Before those roles, Nussmeier spent over a decade in college football as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Fresno State, Washington, Alabama, Michigan, and Florida. He won a national title with a Crimson Tide offense that scored 38.7 points per game in 2012.
A former quarterback himself, Nussmeier set an Idaho school record by tossing 33 passing touchdowns in 1993. He made two NFL starts for the Saints, who selected him with the No. 116 pick of the 1994 draft. Nussmeier threw one touchdown and four interceptions.
His son, Garrett Nussmeier, amassed 4,052 passing yards and 29 touchdowns as LSU's starting quarterback last season. He's returning to Baton Rouge as a top 2025 Heisman Trophy contender.
Like Moore, the older Nussmeier earned a Super Bowl ring earlier this month. He watched Jalen Hurts complete a masterful playoff run with a 71.4 completion percentage, 108.6 quarterback rating, five passing touchdowns, and five rushing touchdowns in four victories.
