ECHL: Cincinnati Cyclones Sign John Spetz

Prior to going pro, the Oak Ridge, New Jersey, native played two years of junior hockey in the USHL with the Chicago Steel. In 164 games with the Steel, he had 24 goals and 54 assists for 78 points. Spetz led all USHL defensemen with 14 goals during the 2019-20 season. He would add three goals and two assists for five points in 18 playoff games with the Steel.

After finishing his junior career, Spetz would head to the NCAA, where he spent five years at the University of Connecticut. Over the course of 164 games with the Huskies, he put up 12 goals and 48 assists for 60 points. During his final season, he led the team with 60 blocked shots. He was named to the NCAA (Hockey East) All-Tournament Team in 2022. Spetz currently holds the program record for career points by a defenseman (60), most goals in the Hockey East Era (12), and most assists by a defenseman in the Hockey East Era (40).
